Thoughts on editorial feedback…

I've been in myriad writing workshops and I've worked with many, many different mentors. I've been writing and studying writing for decades.

I've discovered, every instructor/mentor has their unique take on my work. I've gotten many things published that instructors told me to change - and I didn't.

If you write long enough, you begin to grow confident about your work, your voice and your intention with a piece of writing. That doesn't mean you aren't open to considering other ways to look at, or fashion a piece, it's just that, over time, you’ve developed a strong internal editor.

I think, as writers, we're often insecure about our work and (sometimes) too quick to change it. Part of being an accomplished writer, is knowing when to hue to your own guidance and remain true to your vision for your work.
